8-Man Football League Predictions Update Week 9

We are 8 weeks thru the regular season.  Mancos and Byers both locked up league titles last week and get the automatic berth into the playoffs.  Byers winning the league title means you must be inside the top 15 RPI because of their RPI sitting at #18.  This week we could see a few more league title wrapped up.

Arkansas Valley League

Holly

Holly stays as my pick to win the Ark Valley League.  Holly improved to 6-1 on the season with a 43-0 win over Hoehne last week.  Holly cannot lock up the league title till the final game of the season and even then, must face both Fowler and Crowley County who are 1 game back of Holly.  Holly is close to a lock for the playoffs, but back-to-back losses could still move them into a danger zone.  Holly will host Fowler this weekend and I do think a win over Fowler locks them into the playoffs.  Holly sits at #8 in the RPI.

Fowler

Fowler dropped to 5-2 on the season losing to Crowley County 26-6.  Fowler is still just 1 game back of Holly for the league title and will travel to face Holly this Friday Night.  Fowler will be looking for the upset.  Fowler RPI dropped to #15 and are on the bubble.  A loss to Holly and Fowler will probably need to beat Hoehne in the final game of the season and may need some help to get in.

Crowley County

Crowley County improved to 5-2 on the season and kept their playoff hopes alive picking up a huge 26-6 win over Fowler.  Crowley County has now won 4 straight games since being upset by Wiley to open league play.  Crowley County this week travels to face Hoehne.  This is a must win game for both teams.  Crowley County will face Holly in the final game, and I think a win over Hoehne should boost them into the top 15 and give them a shot at the playoffs.  If Crowley County loses to Hoehne then they may need to upset Holly in the final game to have any shot.  Crowley County sits at #16 in the RPI and in 8-Man you probably need to finish inside the top 15.

Hoehne

Hoehne dropped to 4-3 overall after losing to Holly 43-0.  Hoehne has now lost back-to-back games and see their playoff hopes hanging in by a strand.  Hoehne has a must win game against Crowley County.  Hoehne only shot at the playoffs is upsetting both Crowley County and possibly Fowler.  Hoehne sits at #22 in the RPI and needs a quality win.

McClave

McClave improved to 4-3 on the season with a 62-16 win over Las Animas.  McClave has now won 2 straight games and keep their playoff hopes alive.  McClave this week will host Springfield.  McClave must win out to get into the playoffs.  McClave will face Wiley in the season finale.  McClave sits at #19 in the RPI.  They might need some help to push for a top 15 spot.

Wiley

Wiley improved to 2-3 on the season following the 34-8 win over Springfield.  Wiley this week hosts Las Animas.  Wiley sits at #23 in the RPI and must win out to have any shot at the playoffs.  They are one of many teams pushing for one of the final spots in the playoffs.  Wiley is a team that I will be watching to see what happens with their RPI.  Wiley cannot lose to Las Animas and get into the playoffs.

In the Playoff Hunt

Holly, Fowler, Hoehne, Wiley, Crowley County, McClave

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Las Animas, Springfield

RPI Standings (As of 10/20)

#8 Holly, #15 Fowler, #16 Crowley County, #19 McClave, #22 Hoehne, #23 Wiley, #29 Las Animas, #34 Springfield

Central League

Byers

Byers is your Central League Champion and get the automatic berth into the playoffs.  Byers locked up the playoff spot defeating South Park.  Byers now looks to improve their playoff seed.  Byers sits at #18 in the RPI and have 1 game remaining against Justice next week.  Byers have played great since entering league play and seem to be one of the hottest teams in 8-Man currently.

Front Range Christian

I thought about leaving Front Range Christian as a team in the hunt but after looking at their RPI and remaining schedule I do not see Front Range Christian making a 10-spot jump.  Front Range Christian RPI is hurt by their schedule as their OWP sits at .284 and is the second worst in 8-Man.  Front Range Christian is eliminated from the playoff hunt.

League Champion

Byers

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Front Range Christian, Lyons, Elbert, Justice, South Park

RPI Standings (As of 10/20)

#18 Byers, #25 Front Range Christian, #26 Elbert, #27 Lyons, #37 South Park, #40 Justice

Mountain League

Mancos

Mancos is your Mountain League Champion.  Mancos locked up the league title defeating Sanford 60-24.  Mancos played well against Sanford and look to be in the running for a top 3 seed.  Mancos will face Dolores Huerta this Friday and Sargent in the final game of the season.  Mancos should cruise in both those games.  Mancos has the #1 RPI.

Sanford

Sanford dropped to 5-2 on the season losing to Mancos 60-24.  Sanford was without RB/LB Kelton Gartrell and we wait to see when and if he plays against Sedgwick County or Dove Creek.  Sanford must find a way to bounce back this week when they travel to face Sedgwick County.  Sanford will be searching for answers this week.  Sanford is still a lock for the playoffs with the #3 RPI.

Dove Creek

Dove Creek improved to 5-2 on the season getting a forfeit win over Melrose NM.  Dove Creek saw their RPI jump to #10 and are now a lock for the playoffs.  Dove Creek will host Sargent this week.  Dove Creek will host Sanford next week and is a crucial game for playoff seeding.  Dove Creek of course cannot overlook Sargent but will be heavily favored in that game.  Dove Creek has not played a game since 10/1 so I am sure they are happy to be back on the field this week.

Lock for the Playoffs

Mancos (League Champion), Sanford, Dove Creek

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Sargent, Norwood

RPI Standings (As of 10/20)

#1 Mancos, #3 Sanford, #10 Dove Creek, #30 Sargent, #38 Norwood

Northwest League

Vail Christian

Vail Christian currently sits at 7-0 and will now look towards winning the league title.  Vail Christian improved to 7-0 on the season beating Gilpin County 46-0.  Vail Christian this week will travel to face Rangely.  Vail Christian can win the league title if they beat Rangely.  Vail Christian will be the favorite in this game.  Vail Christian sit at #5 in the RPI.

Rangely

Rangely won their 4th straight game and improved to 4-3 on the season.  Rangely defeated Soroco 46-0 and keep momentum going.  Rangely this week look to take control of the league title race when they host Vail Christian.  Rangely cannot win the league title outright this week because they still must face Hayden who sits 1 game back.  Rangely sits at #21 in the RPI and regardless of the outcome this game will help Rangely RPI.

Hayden

Hayden improved to 5-2 on the season following the 48-24 win over Plateau Valley.  Hayden kept their postseason hopes and league title hopes alive by beating Plateau Valley.  Hayden has a bye this week before traveling to face Rangely in the final game of the season.  Hayden sits at #17 in the RPI.  Hayden will probably need to beat Rangely to give themselves a shot at the playoffs.

West Grand

West Grand sits at 3-4 overall and at #24 in the RPI.  Only way West Grand has any shot is by upsetting Vail Christian in the final game.  I have moved West Grand into eliminated from the playoff race.

Lock for the Playoffs

Vail Christian

In the Playoff Hunt

Plateau Valley, Rangely, Hayden

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

West Grand, Plateau Valley, Soroco, Gilpin County

RPI Standings (As of 10/20)

#5 Vail Christian, #17 Hayden, #21 Rangely, #24 West Grand, #31 Platea Valley, #32 Soroco, #39 Gilpin County

Plains League

Haxtun

Haxtun will look to lock up the league title this weekend when they host Denver Christian.  Haxtun with a win over Denver Christian wins the Plains League title regardless of their final game against Akron.  Haxtun will be heavily favored against Denver Christian.  Haxtun also is looking at a possible #1 or #2 seed for the playoffs.  Haxtun sits at #2 in the RPI.

Dayspring Christian

Dayspring Christian improved to 6-2 on the season. Dayspring Christian defeated Sedgwick County 36-6.  Dayspring Christian is now a lock to make the playoffs with the #7 RPI.  Dayspring Christian has 1 final game remaining against Merino on Saturday.  Dayspring Christian with a win should be a top 8 seed.  A loss to Merino and Dayspring Christian will probably be on the road.  Dayspring Christian has a bye in the final week of the season.

Merino

Merino improved to 3-4 on the season with a 40-6 win over Caliche.  That win was a big steppingstone to making the playoffs.  Merino this week will host Dayspring Christian and an upset would lock their spot into the playoffs.  A loss and it makes their final game against Denver Christian as a must win.  Merino is a near lock for the playoffs with the #12 RPI but still on the bubble.  We will see what happens with their RPI after this weeks game.

Akron

Akron is a lock for the playoffs improving to 5-2 overall and sit at #6 in the RPI.  Akron will host Caliche this weekend and will be facing a desperate Caliche team who must get a quality win.  Akron could be a top 8 seed if they beat Caliche.  Akron will face Haxtun in the final week of the season and will be huge for playoff seeding.

Caliche

Caliche dropped to 2-5 on the season and sit at #20 in the RPI.  Caliche needs a quality win or 2 to get into the playoffs.  If Caliche can upset Akron or Sedgwick County, we may see them jump into the top 15.  Their playoff hopes hold on by a thread.

Sedgwick County

Sedgwick County dropped to 4-3 on the season falling to Dayspring Christian 36-6 and losing back-to-back games.  Sedgwick County dropped to #9 in the RPI, but I still have them as a lock.  Sedgwick County this week host Sanford in a non-league game.  Sedgwick County with a win locks up their playoff spot.  If Sedgwick County loses and drops outside the top 12, they will move back on the bubble.  Sedgwick County may be favored this week against Sanford.

Lock for the Playoffs

Haxtun, Dayspring Christian, Akron, Sedgwick County

In the Playoff Hunt

Merino, Caliche

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Denver Christian

RPI Standings (As of 10/20)

#2 Haxtun, #6 Akron, #7 Dayspring Christian, #9 Sedgwick County, #12 Merino, #20 Caliche, #33 Denver Christian

Southern League

Calhan

Calhan sits in the driver’s seat to win the league title.  Calhan must win out to win the league title.  They are tied with Swink and Pikes Peak Christian at 1 loss but hold the tiebreak in both games.  Calhan will face Custer County and Dolores Huerta in their final 2 games and will be heavily favored.  Calhan is in the running for a top 8 seed and sit at #4 in the RPI.

Swink

Swink improved to 4-2 on the season and put their playoff hopes in better shape after upsetting Simla 36-30.  Swink now sit at #13 in the RPI still on the bubble but are in the top 15 right now.  Swink this week have a huge league matchup against Pikes Peak Christian.  Swink with another win should punch their ticket into playoffs but a loss puts them closer to the edge of the bubble.

Pikes Peak Christian

Pikes Peak Christian dropped to 3-2 on the season falling to Calhan 26-24.  PPC now has to quickly rebound and get ready for a huge clash against Swink.  PPC dropped from #8 in the RPI to #11 and are now on the bubble.  PPC with a win over Swink punch their ticket into the playoffs but a loss makes things much more interesting.  Should be a great game between Swink and Pikes Peak Christian.

Simla

Simla dropped to 5-3 on the season losing to Swink 36-30.  Simla dropped to #14 in the RPI and have 1 last game remaining against John Mall.  The game against John Mall will do little to help their RPI so they will be one of the teams watching what happens in the final week of the season.  Simla cannot lose to John Mall and get into the playoffs.  Simla has some wiggle room between themselves and the #15 team.

Locked for Playoffs
