West Grand saw its six-match winning streak snapped last night in a 3-0 loss at Vail Mountain. The tenth-ranked Mustangs lost their share of the Western Slope lead with the defeat. For the Gore Rangers it was just their second win in the last five outings.
Del Norte made it six straight wins with its 3-0 victory over South Park last night. Abigail Rivera racked up 11 kills and five aces for the Tigers.
Two big matches in the Santa Fe highlight tonight’s schedule, with #6 Fowler visiting Swink and Las Animas hosting Hoehne. Fowler is coming off a 3-1 win over Hoehne on Tuesday night. The Grizzlies have only dropped two sets so far this season. Swink has dropped its last four matches, including a five-setter last Thursday to Rocky Ford. The winner of the contest in Las Animas stays within two wins of the league lead. Fowler currently shares that lead with Rye. Rocky Ford is one game back in third.
Fifth-ranked Strasburg enters tonight’s home tilt with The Academy looking for a fourth straight victory. The Indians have won three straight since suffering their only loss of the season to top-ranked Sedgwick County. Five players have at least 47 kills on the season, with Marysue Hauser’s 99 leading the way.
Sanford will host Trinidad, needing a fifth straight win to keep a share of the Southern Peaks lead. The Mustangs are tied with Sargent and Del Norte atop that league. Trinidad is looking to avoid an 0-3 start to league play.
Buena Vista currently sits seventh in the Southern Peaks, but can climb a few spots with a home victory over Center. Both teams come in off losses.
In the Union Pacific, Limon is hosting 1A Flagler, trying to knock the Panthers out of their tie atop the league. Flagler and Strasburg are both 2-0 in league play, with Stratton at 1-0. Limon sits fourth at 2-1. Burlington is the last team to open UP action, as the Cougars visit 1A Genoa-Hugo tonight. The Cougars have won three of their last five matches, after opening the year with a pair of five-set losses to Kit Carson and Sedgwick County.
