A good portion of last night’s activity took place in the Santa Fe, where #6 Fowler defeated Swink 3-0 and Crowley County did the same at John Mall. Hoehne and Las Animas hooked up as well, but their scores were not reported.

Fifth-ranked Strasburg withstood a fierce test from 3A’s The Academy. The Indians rallied from a 2-1 deficit, and took the decisive fifth set by a 15-13 count. It was their fourth straight win.

That was just one of a number of thrilling five-setters on the night. Limon dropped one to 1A Flagler in the Union Pacific. Custer County gave away a 2-0 lead at Sargent before taking the fifth (15-9) in non-league play. Bishop Machebeuf got 15 kills from Teresa Guevarra in a 3-2 win over Lyons in the Mile High conference. Denver Christian also got a 3-2 win over Heritage Christian in the same league in a very entertaining match. North Fork dropped one to 4A Grand Junction Central in non-league action.

Sanford and Buena Vista both earned 3-0 wins in Southern Peaks play. The Mustangs made it five straight sweep victories by beating Trinidad at home, while the Demons took care of Center at home.

It’s a rare light Friday night, with only 11 total matches on the schedule. Only two of those involve ranked teams, both in the Western Slope.

Ninth-ranked Vail Christian looks to stay unbeaten when it travels to Grand Valley, who has dropped eight of its first nine contests this year. Right behind the Saints in the rankings is West Grand, who will try to bounce back from a loss to Vail Mountain earlier this week. The Mustangs will host DeBeque, who is just 2-9 on the year.

Also in the Western Slope tonight, Olathe (12th to begin the week) hosts Cedaredge. The Pirates bounced back from a five-set loss to West Grand last week with a 3-1 win over Grand Valley on Tuesday. The Bruins dropped their last outing in a sweep at the hands of Hayden.

Front Range Christian got back into the win column on Tuesday after dropping three straight and now the Falcons will look to improve to 2-0 in the Mile High with a home clash against Dayspring Christian. Front Range Christian has lost 14 straight in the series and 16 of the last 17 meetings.

CLASS 3A

There were few upsets across the classification last night, with one taking place in the Patriot league. Ninth-ranked Resurrection Christian went to Sterling and swept the #7 Tigers in three relatively lopsided sets, including a 25-8 third frame.

Platte Valley, University, Valley, and Liberty Common all picked up 3-0 wins inside the Patriot, defeating Brush, Frontier Academy, Wellington, and Weld Central, respectively. The lone league team to work more than three sets was Timnath, who took a five-set win over Northridge in non-league play.

Delta improved to 2-0 in the Western Slope with a 3-1 win over Basalt. Ellie Ames (15) and Aadrey Fraser (14) combined for 29 kills in the win.

Fort Lupton rolled to a 5-0 mark in the Frontier by sweeping Platte Canyon. Payton Faulhaber dominated the net with 10 kills and five blocks for the Bluedevils.

Vanguard sent Florence to a third straight loss inside the Tri-Peaks, as the Coursers earned a 3-1 win on the road. It stopped a two-match skid and was also their first league victory of the season.

There are only four matches on the slate for tonight, with the top one featuring Jefferson Academy hosting Colorado Springs Christian in non-league play. The Jaguars had won four in a row before falling to #8 Stargate School last Saturday. Their only other loss is to 2A #5 Strasburg in five sets. Colorado Springs Christian is also looking to bounce back from a loss, as the Lions fell in four sets to James Irwin last night in Tri-Peaks action. They are just 3-2 in their last five.
