Class 1A Boys Regional Prediction Review

Class 1A boys had a few upsets in the field of regionals but only one double digit seed advanced into the Elite 8 being Idalia.  I went 5 for 8 picking the State qualifiers missing #8 Idalia, #5 Flatirons Academy, and #7 Peetz.

Class 1A Boys State Tournament Predictions

Elite 8 Predictions

#1 McClave over #8 Idalia

McClave played well at their regional winning both games by 20+ points.  McClave will look for their guards to play their best game as they will face a pair of guards who had outstandings games in the regional round.  Idalia pulled the biggest upset of regionals knocking off the #5 Seeded Belleview Christian.  Idalia was led by their senior guards who scored over 50+ points together.  Idalia to pull the upset will need it’s top guards to dominate yet again.  I like McClave size to help them move into the Final 4.

#4 Stratton over #5 Flatirons Academy

Stratton defeated Otis for the fourth time in one season in the regional finals.  All four games were tough matchups.  Flatirons Academy picked up solid wins on the road defeating Briggsdale and Nucla at regionals.  Stratton will look to use physical play to defeat Flatirons Academy and Flatirons Academy will hope their size is the difference.  Stratton has state tournament experience of last season and I think helps them advance.  This should be a great matchup.

#6 Sierra Grande over #3 Denver Jewish Day

Could be the best matchup of the first round.  Denver Jewish Day had a pair of hard fought 11-point wins over South Baca and Front Range Baptist.  The defending State Champions will look for another great run.  Sierra Grande is playing their best basketball of the season.  Sierra Grande defeated a solid De Beque by 13 in the regional finals and their run and gun style of play should translate well at state.  This should be a great game in the opening round and could see it going either way.

#2 Cheyenne Wells over #7 Peetz

I think this could be an underrated matchup.  Cheyenne Wells and Peetz both move into the State Tournament picking up 10+ point wins in the regional finals.  Cheyenne Wells has the size to give any team fits plus their guards have proven to play physical defense holding Denver Waldorf to just 16 points.  Peetz will look to get the 3-ball going and push the tempo of the game.  Two different styles of play and I think could make for a fun game.

Consolation Round

#8 Idalia over #5 Flatirons Academy

#7 Peetz over #3 Denver Jewish Day

Semifinal Round

#1 McClave over #4 Stratton

#2 Cheyenne Wells over #6 Sierra Grande

Championship Saturday

#2 Cheyenne Wells over #1 McClave (State Championship)

#4 Stratton over #6 Sierra Grande (3rd Place Game)

#8 Idalia over #7 Peetz (5th Place Game)

As I mentioned above, I think we are in for four great games to open the state tournament.  I think all four games will be competitive this year.  It will come down to who can handle the pressure of playing on the big stage.  I plan on doing daily updates after each round.  Remember to follow the scores of the games check out our Facebook page & twitter.  We plan on having pictures posted on Facebook as well.  We will also have updates on the website as well.  Good Luck to all teams.
