Football Class 1A Final Playoff Projections

Latest RPI Rankigns: http://chsaanow.com/rpi/football/ .  With a couple games today and the latest RPI being released this morning we can put are final Playoff Projections out.  Of course the Top 16 teams get in but a seeding committee will seed the tournament.  What I am going to do is follow the seeding rules and try and seed the 1A field.

Playoffs (Straight from Chsaanow.com): The Top 16 teams in the Classification based on the final RPI rankings will be placed into the post-season bracket.  If a conference champion is not ranked in the Top 16 based on RPI rankings, they will replace the lowest ranked team that is not a conference champion in the Top 16.

Seeding Criteria (once qualifiers are determined)

  • The following criteria will be taken into consideration when seeding bracket, in no particular order: geography, RPI, common opponents, strength of schedule, and head to head competition
  • A conference champion in the Top-10 of the seeded playoff bracket will host a first round game, unless they are playing another league champion. Once seeded, the seeds of the team will not change regardless of who hosts the game.
  • A conference champion not ranked in the top 10 of the seeded playoff bracket will be placed in the bracket but will not host a first round game.
  • A conference champion not ranked in the Top 16 of the final RPI rankings will be placed in the bracket, but will not be guaranteed a top 10 seed and will not be guaranteed to host a first round game.
  • Conference opponents will not be paired against one another in the first round.
  • Geography will be consideration in the first round

Seeding Procedure

  • Conference champions that are ranked in the top 16 of the RPI rankings are placed on the board for consideration.
  • The seeding committee will determine the #1 overall seed and place that team on the bracket. The #2 team for the same conference as the #1 overall seed will then be placed on the board for consideration.  The seeding committee will then determine the #2 overall seed and place that team on the bracket.  The #2 team from the same conference s the #2 overall seed will then be placed on the board for consideration.  This process followed until all 16 teams are seeded.

#3 Strasburg vs #14 Wray

#6 Florence vs #11 Paonia

#7 Centauri vs #10 Crowley County

#2 Peyton vs #15 Buena Vista

Note: The First 8 seeds were very simple and followed with the RPI.  The only possible switch could be Meeker and Centauri but Centauri SOS is higher than Meeker so Centauri will stay at #7.  Florence has the head to head on Centauri so they move to #6.  The rest of the rest of the seeding was tough due to 4 teams from one league and overloading one side of the bracket will all 4 teams.  Starting at #16 was Highland they just beat out Olathe for the final spot.  Monte Vista has the #15 RPI but they beat Buena Vista so I have Buena Vista at #15.  From here on things get difficult.  My biggest thing is will the committee favor geography instead of balancing the bracket.  If they lean geography then I go with Wray at #14 which helps balance the bracket and geography, Monte Vista at #13 for geography, Platte Canyon at #12 which is a trek but I believe they are closer than the #11 or #13 seeds.  Paonia at #11 which is right in line with RPI and decent geography, Crowley County at #10 is RPI and geography, and HOlyoke at #9 is RPI and geography.   If they go balancing the bracket in terms of league teams fro the North Central then my projection then it may look like this:

#1 Limon vs #16 Highland

#8 Meeker vs #9 Crowley County

#4 Colorado Springs Christian vs #13 Monte Vista

#5 Burlington vs #12 Platte Canyon

#3 Strasburg vs #14 Wray

#6 Florence vs #11 Paonia

#7 Centauri vs #10 Holyoke

#2 Peyton vs #15 Buena Vista

Note: The main change is between Crowley County and Holyoke
