6-Man Football State Championship Breakdown
We have reached the finish line and it all comes down too 2 teams who have battled and reached the State Championship. Good Luck to both Teams!
#2 Stratton/Liberty vs #4 Fleming
Stratton/Liberty moved into the state championship following the 62 to 32 victory over #3 Cheyenne Wells. Cheyenne Wells jumped out to the early 8 to 6 lead after the first quarter but then Stratton/Liberty got rolling scoring 24 points in the second quarter and 16 in the third quarter to pull away from Cheyenne Wells. Stratton/Liberty is your defending state champion and reaching the title game again is a huge accomplishment especially losing a good senior class like Stratton/Liberty did. Defensively Stratton/Liberty played well holding Cheyenne Wells to just 8 points in the first 3 quarters. I do know Cheyenne Wells lost a key player in the game. Stratton/Liberty defensively held Cheyenne Wells to just 126 yards rushing and 149 yards passing. Stratton/Liberty did force 2 turnovers in the game and scored a defensive TD. Offensively Stratton/Liberty stuck to their bread and butter and ran the ball very effective. The running game racked up 409 yards and were led by Jaret Lichty (200 yards rushing) and Trevor Frank (161 yards rushing). QB Zeke Craig did complete 4 passes for 30 yards but was not needed to throw the ball in the game, he has proven he can. Stratton/Liberty has Fleming standing in their way of a repeat. Defensively Stratton/Liberty will have to defense both the run and the pass. Stratton/Liberty will look to play their best defensive game and will look to seniors Zeke Craig and Trevor Frank to lead the defense. Offensively Stratton/Liberty must be able to score points and not let down. QB Zeke Craig is not the main weapon but has shown he can throw if needed. The main weapons on offense are RB’s Jaret Lichty and Trevor Frank. The RB’s must have a big game for Stratton/Liberty to win this game.
Fleming moved into the state championship upsetting #1 seeded Kit Carson 68 to 52. This was a crazy game and what a great comeback by Fleming. Fleming took the early 16 to 12 lead after the first quarter but then Kit Carson went on a run. Kit Carson would outscore Fleming 21 to 8 in the second quarter taking the 33 to 24 lead into halftime. Kit Carson would continue to roll scoring the first 13 points in the 3rd quarter taking the 46 to 24 lead. Fleming would then make a huge run. Fleming would outscore Kit Carson in the rest of the 3rd and 4th 44 to 6. This was a great comeback by Fleming and a tale of two halves. Defensively Fleming did give up some points and yardage but made key stops in the second half to turn the game in their favor. Fleming forced 3 turnovers in the game and forced 5 sacks. Brady Kuntz had a outstanding defensive game with 17 tackles, 4 TFL, 3.5 Sacks, and 1 fumble recovery. Offensively Fleming stuck to the rushing attack and proved successful rushing for 351 yards. The main weapon was Brandon Williams who rushed for 257 yards and 5 TDs. Chris Goss (39 yards rushing) and Charles Hobbs (87 yards rushing) also picked into the running game. Fleming now shifts focus to the state title game. Defensively Fleming will face another top-notch offense but look for Fleming to limit the rushing attack and force some turnovers in the process. Offensively Fleming will lean on QB Kade Comstock and RB Brandon Williams. Look for Kade Comstock to be a big part of the offense this week and look for Brandon Williams to try and top his last weeks performance.
This should be a great game. I think whichever team wins this game will need over 50 possibly 60 points. I think both teams break the 40-point mark, and this will be a high scoring game. I think whichever team has the least number of turnovers and which defense make a timely stop will also win this game. I am also very excited to see how two of the best RB’s in 6-Man go head to head with RB Jaret Lichty and RB Brandon Williams. This was my toughest prediction of the entire 6-Man Bracket. I picked both teams in the round by round predictions and never missed with them. I had a hard time picking a team, but I am going with Stratton/Liberty in this game. I think Stratton/Liberty has the experience of the State Championship. I think this will be a 10-point game and both teams over 40 points. I would like to say Good Luck to both teams!
