Class 3A, 4A, and 5A Football Top Games by Jeremiah Johnson

Looking at the top games this week, we start with class 3A and playoff positions will be decided as we come down to the last 3 weeks. Starting off with our 3A game of the week #9 Thompson Valley @ #7 Northridge with both teams having solid rankings they both have a great chance of making the playoffs this year, Thompson Valley must maintain the moto of 1-0 every week and not look forward to next week’s huge game with #1 Roosevelt and possibly the 3A league 7 championship. Northridge does still have a very slim chance of winning the league but would need to win out and have Roosevelt lose 2 of its final 3 games.

Another top game has #26 Fort Morgan going to #6 Holy Family and despite Fort Morgan’s 3-4 record they control their own destiny as if they win out, they will be in the playoffs despite what will more then likely be a non-top 16 finish in rankings.

Two potential games have #15 Pueblo Central visiting Lewis-Palmer and #19 Harrison hosting Pueblo South, if they both win it will set up a league championship game next week when Harrison will travel to play Pueblo Central.

And finally, to round out the 3A top games of the week we have #16 Glenwood Springs @ #5 Summit and #17 Northfield @ #4 Lutheran, a loss by either could drastically hurt their team’s chance at a playoff berth.

For the next class we are down to the last 2 weeks of the season and every game is a must win for teams as they try to lock down their playoff position. We will start off with 3 games that will decide league champions and get the automatic playoff berth, #4 Loveland @ #17 Windsor, #11 Erie @ #19 Longmont, and #7 Montrose @ #9 Mesa Ridge.

#10 Fruita Monument @ #2 Broomfield

#20 Bear Creek @ #18 Standley Lake

And #14 Skyline @ #21 Air Academy

Lastly for class 4A # 1 Palmer Ridge and #8 Vista Ridge need to handle business in their games to set up the much-anticipated game next week for the 4A league 3 Championship.

Ok now 5A is not to be out done as there is a chance for 5 league championships to be decided this week so we will start with them first, we have #4 Ralston Valley home against #20 Chatfield, if Ralston Valley wins, they will be league 1 champion and position themselves to a week 1 bye, also #11 Fossil Ridge @ #16 Fairview for league 3 championship, #1 Cherry Creek @ #9 Arapahoe for league 4, #3 Regis Jesuit plays home against #14 Legend, with a win #3 Regis will win league 6 and more  likely secure a first round bye.

And finally, we have the only unbeaten team in 5A #7 ThunderRidge hosting a game against #2 Valor Christian with the winner being crowned league 5 champions. #7 ThunderRidge has done a great job at taking it one game at a time and going 1-0 every week, and despite there rather low ranking for being unbeaten this late in the season (due to strength in schedule) they get a chance to show they belong with the top teams and try to knock off one of the 5A and Colorado powerhouses.

Come Sunday we will have a lot of answers to who wins and who losses. Get out and support a team locally as these young students battle to fulfill a season long dream of hoisting up the State Championship Trophy!
