6-Man Football Semifinal Breakdown

The best 4 teams in the State square off this week for a shot at a state Championship.  Both games will be very good and good luck to all 4 teams.

#1 Kit Carson vs #4 Fleming

Kit Carson moved into the Semifinals with the 69-14 victory over Eads.  Kit Carson had a big first quarter scoring 40 points but did not get the running clock going until after the second quarter.  Kit Carson defensively had a great game plan and held Eads to just 26 yards rushing.  Kit Carson did give up some passing yards but forced 4 turnovers and 5 sacks.  Offensively Kit Carson racked up 229 yards of total offense.  Kit Carson completed 2 passes for 63 yards and 1 TD.  The rushing attack racked up 166 yards and were led by Joe Bryan who had 3 rushes for 94 yards and 2 TDs.  Kit Carson will now shift their focus to Fleming.  Kit Carson defensively will be facing a balanced offensive attack.  Offensively Kit Carson will be challenged by a very good Fleming defense.  Look for Joe Bryan, Jason Mccombs-Farmer, and Cordell Farmer to have big games for Kit Carson.

Fleming moved into the Semifinals with the 66 to 6 victory over Prairie.  Fleming scored 34 unanswered points in the first half and got the running clock going in the 3rd quarter.  Fleming defensively had a very good plan and held a good offensive team to just 6 points.  Fleming forced 2 turnovers in the game and 1 sack.  Fleming was led in tackles by Brady Kuntz and Brandon Williams.  Offensively Fleming had a solid game racking up 265 yards of total offense.  QB Kade Comstock had a big game passing for 128 yards and 3 TDs.  The rushing attack had 137 yards and were led by Brandon Williams who had 61 yards and 2 TDs.  Fleming must now focus on Kit Carson and will be their toughest test.  Defensively Fleming will be looking to stop a balanced and quick offensive attack.  Offensively Brandon Williams and Kade Comstock must have a huge game.

Kit Carson will be the slight favorite in this game.  I do think whoever wins this game will probably need over 30 points and I think this game could turn into a shootout.  I think whichever team makes the least number of mistakes will win this game.

#2 Stratton/Liberty vs #3 Cheyenne Wells

Stratton/Liberty moved into the Semifinals with the 72 to 43 victory over Branson/Kim.  Stratton/Liberty moved out to the quick 32 to 12 lead in the first half.  Branson/Kim would keep things close scoring 15 points in the 3rd quarter but Stratton/Liberty answered with 24 of their own.  Stratton/Liberty had to play their starters the entire game and Branson/Kim played this game tough.  Stratton/Liberty defensively gave up 449 yards of offense but forced 2 turnovers in the game.  Stratton/Liberty was led in tackles by Jaret Lichty, Zeke Craig, Trevor Frank, and Charlie Clapper.  Offensively Stratton/Liberty had a big day racking up 595 yards of total offense.  QB Zeke Craig had one of his best game passing for 177 yards and 2 TDs.  The rushing attack racked up 349 yards and was led by Jaret Lichty (169 yards) and Trevor Frank (117 yards).  Stratton/Liberty must now focus on Cheyenne Wells.  Defensively they will face a very explosive offense.  No teams have held Cheyenne Wells under 30 points.  Offensively Stratton/Liberty must be able to score to keep pace with Cheyenne Wells.  Look for Jared Lichty and Trevor Frank to really step up again for Stratton/Liberty.

Cheyenne Wells moved into the Semifinals with the 56 to 14 victory over North Park.  Cheyenne Wells used 32 points 2nd quarter to propel them to the victory.  Cheyenne Wells defensively held North Park to 225 yards of total offense.  Defensively Cheyenne Wells forced 3 turnovers in the game and 4 sacks.  Cheyenne Wells was led in tackles by Cade Mitchek and Quade Pelton.  Offensively Cheyenne Wells racked up 304 yards of total offense.  Cheyenne Wells struggled running the ball with just 58 yards rushing and 53 were by Quade Pelton.  Cheyenne Wells turned to their special teams and passing attack.  Kyle Nelson had a big day passing for 194 yards and 4 TDs.  Preston Hernandez (89 yards) and Cade Mitchek (79 yards) were his main targets.  Cheyenne Wells now must shift their focus to Stratton/Liberty.  Defensively Cheyenne Wells will try and limit the rushing attack and force Stratton/Liberty to throw.  Offensively Cheyenne Wells must get the running game going and also be able to score.

Stratton/Liberty will be the slight favorite in this game.  I think this will be a very high scoring game and could see both teams break the 35-point mark.  I think this game will come down to which team has the ball last and which team makes the least amount of mistakes.
