Mile High Prep Reports Top Returning Defense’s 6-Man Football
Picking the best returning defenses is not an easy task but of course it’s always fun to take a look. Defense is 6-Man is very underrated but after Fleming dominate performance on defense last year I think it’s very important. I am using PPG given up last year and seeing what teams are returning. This is one of my favorite articles to write and defense usually wins championships. I will release my preseason 6-Man Top 10 tomorrow.
High School | Stats |
Stratton | Their defense gave up 217 points last year which was 3rd best in 6-Man. Stratton is returning one of the toughest defense in 6-Man from last season. This season they will be looking for the best unit in 6-Man. Stratton will return 6 of their top 8 tacklers from last season including 3 of their top 4. Stratton will look to Cyler Notter, Charlie Tagtmeyer, and Joe Shean to step up as leaders this season. |
Fleming | Their defense gave up 280 points last year which was 5th best in 6-man. Fleming was young last season and had many younger players step up as leaders. Fleming will return 5 of their top 8 tacklers including 2 of their top 4. Leadership is the biggest thing to replace but I look for Nolan Japp and Kolten Houser to be leaders this season for Fleming. |
Granada | Their defense gave up 317 points last year which was 10th best in 6-Man. Granada continues to improve on defense, and they will look again to improve to possibly a top 4 unit this season. Granada will return 7 of their top 8 tacklers including 3 of their top 4. Granada will have 1 big senior to replace but look to Maddox Coleman, Bailey Hernandez, and John Hainer to step up their game heading into this season. |
North Park | Their defense gave up 326 points last year which was 12th best in 6-man. North Park has been young the past few season and this season they look for a big turnaround. North Park will return 7 of their top 8 tacklers including their top 4 tacklers from last season. Leadership comes from Hunter Sessions and Montgomery Ramsey. Look for North Park to take a big step this season under key senior leadership. |
Branson/Kim | Their defense gave up 236 points last year which was 4th best in 6-man. Branson/Kim will be returning key pieces from last season as they look to stay as a top 5 defense this season. Branson/Kim will return 6 of their top 8 tacklers from last season and 4 of their top 4 tacklers from last season. Branson/Kim will turn to leadership from Cade Smith and Bridger Keeler. |
Idalia | Their defense gave up 313 points last year which was 9th best in 6-man. Idalia had a big season a year ago and they will look to build off last season success. Idalia will return just 4 of their top 8 tacklers but return 3 of their top 4 so leadership should not be a problem. Two players to watch for this season are Eduardo Estrada and Logan Breyer. Idalia could once again be a top team in 6-Man and their defense could be a force to deal with.0 |
Walsh | Their defense gave up 309 points last year which was 8th best in 6-man. Walsh was very young last season starting mostly sophomores and freshman. This season we should see Walsh take that next step and be a top team in 6-Man. Walsh returns their entire roster including top tacklers in Leyton Jones and Axton Bishop. |
Cheyenne Wells | Their defense gave up 202 points last year which was best in 6-man. Cheyenne Wells had a great run last season using their aggressive defense to help win the championship. Cheyenne Wells will have some holes to fill with just 2 of their top 8 tacklers coming back but good coaching and key leadership from Ty Scheler and Blake Gilmore should help Cheyenne Wells get up to speed quickly. |
Otis | Their defense gave up 381 points last year which was 14th best in 6-Man. Otis took big steps last year with a young team and this season will look for an improved defense and a more successful season. Otis returns all 8 of their top 8 tacklers and this will be very important for an improved defense. Top tacklers Charlie Kendrick, Bohden Klinzmann, and Taylor Ringlein should help improve Otis to a top 8 defense this season. |
Prairie | Their defense gave up 414 points last year which was 19th best in 6-Man. Prairie will look to improve defensively this season and this unit could carry a younger offense. Prairie will return 4 of their top 8 tacklers but return key leadership with 3 of their top 4 tacklers coming back. Key pieces coming back for Prairie are Carter Jaeger, Claytin Hove, and Parker Jaeger. |
Arickaree/Woodlin | Their defense gave up 381 points last year which was 15th best in 6-Man. Arickaree/Woodlin had some success last season, but they will look to improve again this year. Arickaree/Woodlin will return 6 of their top 8 tacklers but lose key leadership with only 2 of their top 4 coming back. Arickaree/Woodlin will turn to Logan Wright and Hayden Page to step up as leaders. |
Briggsdale | Their defense gave up 417 points last year which was 20th best in 6-Man. Briggsdale will once again have their eyes set on a playoff run but will look to improve defensively. Briggsdale will return just 4 of their top 8 tacklers from last season but Briggsdale does return their top 2 tacklers from last season in Tanner Fiscus and Johnathan Malovich. Briggsdale will need depth to step up this season. |
Genoa-Hugo | Their defense gave up 389 points last year which was 17th best in 6-man. Genoa-Hugo had a big season last year making the playoffs but for a deeper run need their defense to step up. Genoa-Hugo will return 5 of their top 8 tacklers but key senior leadership is gone with just 2 of their top 4 tacklers coming back. Jack Kissel and Trey Smith will look to move into leadership roles this season. |
Cheraw | Their defense gave up 407 points last year which was 18th best in 6-man. Cheraw reached the playoffs last season, and they will look to do so again this year. Cheraw will return 5 of their top 8 tacklers including 3 of their top 4. Cheraw could have a big season from Wade Goodrich and Braeden Harris. Cheraw needs their defense to really step up this season and help a young offense. |
